Concrete Batch Plant Chillers

High-capacity chillers for concrete batch plants. Control water & aggregate temperatures, prevent premature setting, and ensure consistent mix quality. Free sizing guide included.

Why Cooling is Critical in Concrete Production

High temperatures during mixing can cause:

  • Premature curing and cracking.
  • Reduced compressive strength.
  • Inconsistent slump and workability.
Chillers maintain optimal 10–25°C mix temperatures, ensuring compliance with ASTM C94 and EN 206 standards.

How Batching Plant Chillers Work

How Batching Plant Chillers Work

Chillers cool water, aggregates, or both via a refrigeration cycle:

  1. Heat Absorption: Warm water/aggregates pass through a titanium plate heat exchanger.
  2. Refrigeration: Refrigerant absorbs heat, cools via compressor/condenser.
  3. Temperature Control: Chilled water (as low as 1°C) or cooled aggregates are fed into the mixer.
  4. Ice Injection (Optional): Ice slurry systems for extreme climates (-5°C output).

How to Size a Chiller
for Your Batch Plant

How to Size a Chiller
for Your Batch Plant

Step 1: Calculate Cooling Load
Cooling Capacity (kW)=860Water Flow Rate (L/h)×ΔT+Aggregate Cooling ΔT: Temperature drop (e.g., from 30°C ambient to 15°C mix water).
Aggregate Cooling: Factor in mass × specific heat (0.2 kcal/kg°C for stone).
Step 2: Example Sizing
Plant Output: 100 m³/day | Water/Batch: 1,000L | ΔT: 20°C
Cooling Capacity: \frac{1,000 \times 20}{860} = 23.25 \, \text{kW} \, (\text{+20% safety margin = 28 kW})
Large Plants (500+ m³/day): 200–250 kW chillers with dual compressors.
Step 3: Select Chiller Type
Water-Cooled Chillers: For high-capacity plants with cooling tower access.
Air-Cooled Chillers: Compact, ideal for mobile batch plants.
Glycol Chillers: For aggregate cooling in extreme heat (>40°C ambient).
